What is a Smart Resetter ®?
The Smart Resetter is a low-cost reset device that has been developed with the small refiller in mind. As technologies for inkjet cartridges and inkjet chips has progressed, the OEM manufacturers of certain cartridge types have embedded "lock out" mechanisms in the cartridge chips to essentially force the printer into not accepting a cartridge when it is sensed as "empty". Enter the Smart Resetter, which is designed to reset the original cartridge chips so that the printer can now recognize the chips as "like new", and thereby allow the empty cartridge to be refilled, reset, and reused.

The Smart Resetter is a proprietary brand, manufactured and distributed by Easy Group, LLC.
Which printers require a Smart Resetter ®?
Not all OEM inkjet cartridges use "lock out" chip technology, and therefore do not require a reset device in order to refill and reuse the empty cartridges. However, certain inkjet cartridge manufacturers are well known for their lockout chip strategies, and it is for these printer and cartridge types that Smart Resetters are made in reponse to:
- Epson Inkjet Cartridges: An Epson Resetter is available for almost all Epson inkjet cartridges on the market.
- Canon Inkjet Cartridges: A Canon Resetter is available for the Canon CLI-8 and Canon PGI-5 cartridges. All other Canon cartridges do not require a resetter.
- HP Inkjet Cartridges: Most HP inkjet cartridges do not utilize lockout chips. A limited number of HP inkjet cartridges such as the HP 02, HP 10 and HP 11 do, and for those Smart Resetter has made an HP Resetter available.
